The unique story of Saadia Bahat at a meeting with teachers from Vilnius

On the afternoon of 27 November 2024, a meeting was organised with Saadia Bahat, a Holocaust survivor turned artist.

The seminar “The Story of Holocaust Survivor Saadia Bahat” was attended by teachers from Vilnius, who had the unique opportunity to meet live (on the Zoom platform) with 96-year-old Saadia Bahat, who lives in Israel. The international meeting was conducted in Lithuanian. Saadia Bahat spoke about his childhood in Alytus and Vilnius, his experiences in the Vilnius ghetto and imprisonment in several concentration camps, his arrival in Israel, and the beginning of his new life. During the conversation, Saadia’s sister Lilia, who studied with Irena Veisaite after the war, was remembered, and they were very close friends.

The seminar was attended by 17 teachers and educators, to whom Saadia Bahat presented his book “From childhood paradise to hell and Back to Paradise.”

The seminar was organised by the Secretariat of the International Commission for the Evaluation of the Crimes Committed by the Nazi and Soviet Occupation Regimes in Lithuania, in cooperation with the Vilnius Jewish Public Library, a branch of the Lithuanian National Martynas Mažvydas Library.
