On 23 October the Kaunas IX Fort Museum held an event, where students were reading and reciitng works by Lithuanian Jews (writers, poets, publicists).
The reciters’ contest, introducing the works of the Litvaks, was held for the second year. This year, due to the current situation, the organizers limited the number of participants, although a large group of students from all over Lithuania were willing to participate in this contest. The students’ performances were evaluated by a commission consisting of Marius Pečiulis – Director of Kaunas IX Fort Museum, Ronaldas Račinskas – Head of the International Commission Secretariat, Gercas Žakas – Chairman of Kaunas Jewish Community, Milda Rutkauskaitė – communication and art history specialist and Lukas Alsys – theatrologist and one of the initiators of this contest. The event welcomed students with teachers from 32 Lithuanian schools.
The participants of the contest were divided into 2 age groups: 5 – 8 graders and 9 – 12 graders. In each age group, 3 participants became the winners (awarded the 1st – 3rd places).
The Secretariat of the International Commission is pleased that the contest was attended by representatives of Tolerance Education Centers from: Kazys Grinius Progymnasium (Kaunas), Balbieriškis Basic School (Prienai dstr.), Rožynas Progymnasium (Panevėžys), Dukstyna Basic School (Ukmergė), Sūduva Gymnasium (Marijampolė), Putinai Gymnasium (Alytus), Gabija Gymnasium (IMažeikiai), Kaunas Art Gymnasium and Vytautas Magnus Gymnasium (Vilnius).
