At the end of June, a one-day seminar was held in Vilnius for the teachers to prepare them for an international seminar – an internship in the Yad Vashem institution in Israel.
At the meeting, the internship program was presented to the teachers, as well as the goals and objectives of the international seminar in Israel. The educational staff was introduced to a cooperation agreement between the Secretariat of the International Commission and the Yad Vashem institution and a jointly implemented program for teachers to be trained on the Holocaust topic.
Prof. Saulius Sužiedėlis, Chairman of the Subcommittee of International Commission for the Nazi occupation regimes crime and the Holocaust study delivered a lecture on “From Stereotypes to Anti-Semitism: Lithuanians’ Attitude towards Jews and the Holocaust Prerequisites”. Participants met a Holocaust witness, Fania Brancovskaya, who managed to leave the Vilnius ghetto just before its liquidation on September 23rd of 1943.
The preparatory seminar for the internship was organized for teachers by the Secretariat of the International Commission. The Secretariat of the International Commission, on the basis of a cooperation agreement with Yad Vashem, an international school on Holocaust studies, educates Lithuanian teachers on the topic of the Holocaust.
