On March 6, 2025, a seminar on Russia’s expansionist policy from the Middle Ages to the present day was held at the Meilė Lukšienė Educational Center in Marijampolė.
Teachers from several schools in Marijampolė and its district participated in the seminar. Algirdas Jakubčionis, historian and member of the Sub-Commission for the Evaluation of the Crimes of the Soviet Occupation Regime within the International Commission, participated in the event, which was addressed to the educational community. Many high school students from Marijampolė came to listen to the historian’s lecture.
In his lecture, historian Algirdas Jakubčionis analyzed the reasons for Russia’s expansionist policy since the time of Tsar Ivan IV, reviewing Russia’s wars and occupation policy in the enslaved countries.
The seminar for teachers and the lecture for the educational community of Marijampolė were organized by the Tolerance Education Centre of the Meilė Lukšienė Educational Centre in cooperation with the Secretariat of the International Commission.
