This project invites school communities and Tolerance education centers to get a closer look at the Lithuanian Jewish history before World War II. The project is aimed at a deeper understanding of the history of Jews and their mentality.
The participants of the project are encouraged to read Lithuanian Jewish writers’ works, to get acquainted with the history of Lithuanian Jews, their traditions, culture and philosophy. Based on litvaks’ creative works to produce plays and performances, reflecting the topic of the project.
The project is developed for pupils in grades 8 through 12. Participants of the project are invited to create performances of up to 45 minutes in duration.
Performances of the pupils, best reflecting the theme, will be presented to all the project participants and to the Lithuanian public at an event in Vilnius, which will be held in April/May of 2020, while commemorating Yom Ha Shoah Day.
The project is initiated by the Secretariat of the International Commission for the evaluation of the crimes of the Nazi and Soviet occupation regimes in Lithuania. This project is dedicated to the marking of the year of 2020, which was declared by the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania to be the year of Vilnius Gaon and the history of the Jews of Lithuania.
