On March 27, at the Academy in VMU Ugne Karvelis gymnasium in Kaunas district, lectures and discussions on Jewish history took place with the gymnasium students.
On March 27, Ingrida Vilkienė, coordinator of educational programs at the Secretariat of the International Commission, visited VMU Ugnė Karvelis gymnasium in Akademija (Kaunas district). There, she met with a large group of students for a lecture on the history of the Jewish people: traditions, famous people, Jewish life in Lithuania before World War II, the Holocaust, and the preservation of historical memory.
At the beginning of the meeting, the high school students presented Jewish music and dances, performed a dance, and explained its history.
As the Day of Rescuers of Lithuanian Jews was recently commemorated, a video about the rescuers was shown to the students. The students asked questions about the number of Jewish rescuers and the circumstances of rescues in other countries.
The unconventional history lesson was organized by history teacher Asta Steikūnienė, who, at the beginning of the lecture, emphasized to the students that it is necessary to be aware of the traditions and history of other nations because only by knowing more can we become emotionally more affluent, more mature and more open-minded.
