On 2-6 October an international seminar was held in Vilnius for teachers from Belarus, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia and Ukraine.
The seminar was attended by 55 teachers and educational staff from 6 European countries. The participants had a specific common fact – everyone had attended an international seminar in Yad Vashem, Israel. Lecturers from Israel, Yad Vashem – the Holocaust study school, introduced participants to the history of the Vilnius ghetto, the fates of the people, and provided methodological guidance on how to use the memories of witnesses in the educational process. A lecture on the presentation of the Holocaust topic was given to teachers by prof. Šarūnas Liekis, a member of the International Commission. Participants of the seminar discussed projects, activities in their countries, took part in a sightseeing tour in the Old city of Kaunas, got acquainted with expositions of the State Gaon Jewish museum in Vilnius and Kaunas IXth Fort. Ingrida Vilkienė, coordinator of education programs of the International Commission, presented to the seminar participants the network of Tolerance Education Centers, ongoing projects and marking of historical days.
The international seminar was organized by Yad Vashem, the International School for Holocaust Studies in Israel in collaboration with the Secretariat of the International Commission.
