On 17 September Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania hosted an international conference “Historical memory of World War II”.
The conference was opened as well as the relevance of te topic highlighted by prof. dr. Renaldas Gudauskas, director of Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania, Mindaugas Kvietkauskas, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, Urszula Doroszewska, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Lithuania, Emanuelis Zingeris, Chairman of the International Commission.
During the conference, there was an academic, intellectual debate on the assessment of World War II. There was an exhibition introduced about World War II and a discussion on education – how to teach, to present the topic of World War II, crimes against humanity committed by the totalitarian states, etc. Historians, museologists and intellectuals from Lithuania and Poland spoke at the event. 85 participants attended the conference: teachers, museum staff and librarians.
The event was organized by the Polish Embassy in Vilnius, the Polish Institute in Vilnius, Vytautas Magnus University, the secretariat of the International Commission for the evaluation of the crimes of the Nazi and Soviet occupation regimes in Lithuania and Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania.
