On June 3, a national artistic and cultural conference “Beyond the Call of Duty…” was held for the communities of Tolerance Education Centers.
On June 3 the conference was opened by the Mayor of Radviliškis District municipality Vytautas Simelis, who appreciated the fact that such events were taking place in Radviliškis, attracting participants from other towns and townships as well. Ronaldas Račinskas, Executive Director of the International Commission, emphasized in his welcome speech his appreciation that the initiatives to organize events of historical memory originated in the Tolerance Education Centers and that that conference was an example of this.
The objective of the conference was to learn about the history of Lithuanian Jews, to share information, insights about traditions and their cultural heritage. The online conference presented the following topics “Lithuanian Jews‘ History in City Buildings and Streets” (Ingrida Vilkienė, Coordinator of Educational Programs in International Commission), “Jewish Customs and Traditions. Stereotypes and Reality” (Dr. Vilma Gradinskaitė), “Jews-Litvaks‘ dishes during traditional festivities” (Sania Kerbelis and Chatzkelis Karolis from the Jewish community of Šiauliai County), “Artist Litvak Viktoras Davidas Brenneris” (Jonas Nekrašius, Lecturer at Šiauliai University). Students from three Tolerance Education Centers delivered artistic presentations at the conference: students from Akademijos gymasium (Kėdainiai district) and Kalvarija gymnasium as well as Kaunas Kazys Grinius progymnasium.
The national conference for the communities of Tolerance Education Centers was organized by the Tolerance Education Center at the Radviliškis Culture Center in cooperation with the Secretariat of the International Commission.
