On 2 October, 2019 an event to commemorate deportations of Lithuanian inhabitants on 2-3 October of 1951 was held at the monumnet for the victims of the Soviet occupation.
This year marks the 68th anniversary of the deportation operation “Autumn”/Osen/. The participants of the event remembered the exile, the experiences they had to cope with and the losses. Former political prisoners and deportees, politicians, teachers with pupils, residents and guests of Vilnius participated in the event. Vilma Riaboviene, the coordinator of the Tolerance Education Center of Vilnius Ryto progymnasium, prepared an artistic composition “It would be frightful, Lithuania, if I lost you out of my eyesight”, which was performed by the 5-8 graders of this school.
The commemoration event was organized by the Vilnius branch of the Lithuanian Union of political prisoners and deportees. Event partners: The Secretariat of the International Commission and the Genocide and Resistance Research Centre of Lithuania (LGGRTC).
