A centennial of the birth of Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas was solemnly commemorated on the 6th of March in Alytus. The ceremonial events took place at the Independence Angel Monument and Alytus city theatre. The Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania has announced 2018 the Year of Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas. Alytus city municipality organised the celebration on the 100th anniversary of the birth of Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas.
The event was opened by the Mayor of the town Vytautas Grigaravičius. Virginijus Skroblas, the principal of Adolfi Ramanausko-Vanago gymnasium, spoke about citizenship and responsibility towards one‘s country and its people. The event was honoured by a big group of guests, the majority of them were Adolfo Ramanausko-Vanago gymnasium students. Emanuelis Zingeris, the chairperson of the International Commission, addressed the students saying that it is the most important to have a position, to differentiate between the good and evil and to be able to resist the latter. It is a fact that the resistance to the Soviet occupation regime evolved into Sąjūdis movement which later lead our country to Independence.
It is an annual tradition at Adolfo Ramanausko-Vanago gymnasium to commemorate March 6th. This year the students prepared a nice literary-musical composition about the partisan leader Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas.
