February 21 Alytus Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas Gymnasium hosted a conference “Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas And Post-war Resistance: Historical, Political and Moral Heritage”. The event was meant for teachers, museum staff, and everybody interested in Resistance history.
More than a hundred teachers from all Lithuania attended the conference. Speeches about the head of the partisans, officer Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas personality and his work were made to members of the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania, the Mayor of Alytus City Municipality, municipality clerks, historians, museums staff, army officers and other guests.
The participants of the conference were greeted by the Mayor of Alytus, Vytautas Grigaravičius. Virginijus Skroblas, the director of Alytus Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas Gymnasium, emphasised that this year is a very special one for the school because 2018 is the centennial year of the birth of Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas and there are abundant events planned to commemorate the occasion in the city.
Member of Parliament, the chairperson of the Soviet subcommittee of the International Commission for the Evaluation of the Nazi and Soviet Occupation Regimes in Lithuania Arvydas Anušauskas presented new facts about officer Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas. Reports were read by a historian, member of the International Commission, doctor Algirdas Jakubčionis, Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas daughter Auksutė Ramanauskaitė-Skokauskienė, lectors from the National Museum, Army of the Republic of Lithuania, Museum of Merkinė region.
The beginning of the conference was also marked by an opening of Donatas Vasiliauskas exhibition “Vivos plango, mortuos voco” to commemorate Post – war resistance fights.
The conference was organised by Alytus Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas Gymnasium Tolerance Education Centre and the International Commission for the Evaluation of the Nazi and Soviet Occupation Regimes in Lithuania.
