On the 3rd of August teachers from Tolerance Education Centers participated in a seminar in Biržai, where they became acquainted with the history and cultural heritage of the region of Biržai.
Lithuanian teachers participated in the seminar “Knowledge of historical objects in topical locations of Lithuania”. The aim of the seminar is to get acquainted with the history of the region of Biržai and historical objects that are portraying the periods of the Soviet and Nazi occupations. The participants of the seminar visited the old Jewish cemetery and the mass murder site of the Jews in Pakamponys. A talk with the minister of the Evangelical Reformed Church, Rimas Mikalauskas, was held on the topics of tolerance and forbearance. The seminar was attended by teachers from Alytus, Ariogala, Balbieriškis, Biržai, Kedainiai, Panevėžys, Utena and Vilnius.
The informational seminar in Biržai was organized by the International Commission. Summer workshops for the teachers of Tolerance Education Centers have already become traditional – a city or a town in Lithuania is visited every year, where local history is unveiled, with a special focus on the topics analyzed by the International Commission – the Nazi and Soviet occupations.
