On March 20, the event commemorating the Day of Rescuers of Lithuanian Jews took place at Vilnius Simonas Daukantas gymnasium.
The commemoration included an artistic composition, “Žodžiais per (at)mintį/Through Words on to Memory,” based on Litvaks’s works (The Green Aquarium by Avrom Sutskever, The Diary of the Vilnius Ghetto by Yitskhok Rudashevski, and The Stalemate Lasts But A Moment by Icchokas Meras).
History teacher Dr. Deimantas Karvelis shared insights into the Holocaust in Lithuania. Faina Kukliansky, Chairperson of the Jewish Community of Lithuania, was present at the Gymnasium and thanked the students for the sensitive artistic composition and shared the story of her grandfather and his children being rescued with the help of kind people who spent three years in the pit.
Ingrida Vilkienė, the coordinator of the International Commission’s educational program, thanked not only the gymnasium community for the moving performance but also the Goodwill Foundation for partially financing the project “Litvaks’ Creation on the Theatre Stage,” within the framework of which the Simonas Daukantas gymnasium community created the artistic composition.
