As we approach the 23rd of September, the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Genocide of Lithuanian Jews in Lithuania, the International Commission for the Evaluation of the Crimes Committed by the Nazi and Soviet Occupation Regimes in Lithuania invites the entire Lithuanian educational community to remember the Jews who lived in their places of residence and those who were murdered. We invite you to honour their memory by organising a Road of Memory – a procession to the sites of Holocaust victims, or to the sites commemorating the life of the local Jewish community before World War II.
This year marks 83 years since the beginning of the Holocaust in Lithuania and 80 years since the liquidation of the Kaunas and Šiauliai ghettos when a large number of Jews imprisoned in the ghettos were brutally murdered. This is a painful part of Lithuania’s 20th-century history, which constantly reminds us of the crimes committed by totalitarian regimes and their negative impact on societies.
On 23 September, we invite you to participate in the initiative of the Road of Memory and to preserve the historical memory of the lost citizens of Lithuania – the Jews.
